Hey EG, these are great! I love the details - the strap mounts, the string tailpieces etc... very nice indeed. I used a timber frame on the first prototype - much more basic than yours.
Those joints of yours look pretty decent too!
So, what do they sound like? I guess more resonant than a solid body but still quite 'woody'?
Thanks very much for joining in on the forum - its great to have you on board.
All the best,
davey.

Re: five strings, four hubcaps
i came through with the pictures!!!
i find it hard to describe sound, but i'll try.
when unplugged they sound okey. they're quiet, but playable. not as vibrant as a regular guitar, in a strange way they make a simpler one dimensional sound i like. the three string Lada is a tad louder because of heavier strings i guess. the heaviest string on the Lada sounds a bit dull, i maybe have to change it or experiment with tuning. any suggestions? i must mention, the two guitars 'share' one set of strings. three heaviest for the Lada and the next two on the Skoda. my favorite amp/setting so far is vox mini3 uk 80's. thats the SOUND, big, bluesy and dirty.
in the phase of planning i chose to make the lada as detailed as possible, make a robust frame for example. that may have led to a weaker acoustic sound. but this is an amp machine anyway.
glad you liked it. as stated in my opening post, it owes much to your hubcapguitars

Re: five strings, four hubcaps
an idea for the international allstar hubcapguitar band: what if steve and dan recorded a backing/lead track, make it available/downloadeable somehow and those of us who wants to join in records their bits and pieces a top of that. just to see what comes of it. an instrumental version of the tune Bo diddley would be great i think.
stevieB: the main goal was to make the guitars as sturdy as possible and to extend my skills in woodworking. not everything turned out as good as i planned though. and some things where added as i made progress. especially the two string gave some problems. i made a fool out of myself when i drilled the holes in the hubcaps. the holes are somewhat misplaced and i had to force the hubcaps together.
forgot to mention. the pickup in the two string is lifted from a noname cheapo strat copy. maybe i'll change it for another tele neck pickup, most likely not. on both guitars i had a friend of mine helping out with the holes/slots for the pickups. because i don't have the tools required and i didn't want to ruin the hubcaps due to my lack of skills.

Thanks EG. Took mine idea from Davey and just ran with it. Changes happened due to my own shortcomings and whatever was in the shed. Now there's an old fence post in the garden which could make an interesting instrument.

Re: five strings, four hubcaps
I see this topic now, but amazing guitar you build there.
if there will be a hubcapguitarband, I would like to join too
, as I have plans (since the firts time I saw Steve's one on TV) to build one myself.
Will most probably going to be a more basic type like Davey's.
While Davey's has Morris Minor parts, which of course is of Englisch origine, mine will become a hubcab guitar of old DAF parts (I am from Holland and DAF is Dutch brand), of a car I used to drive myself long time ago.
Anyway, you all build very nice stuff!!
