Good evening Y'All
On sunday i went along to Perth concert hall to see Steve play but id like to write a short intro to how i came about getting there.
A friend of mine thats into blues music mentioned some months back a list of musicians i might be interested in hearing to see if i could be educated! into listening to blues ....so reluctantly i tried a few out and in amongst them was some guy calling himself seasick steve!..He was amongst maybe ten different blues players i looked up on you tube that night and in all honesty i did nt take too much notice(honestly dont know why not).
Fast forward to a few weeks ago when taking my daughter out for a driving lesson she mentioned some guy called seasick steve that had been on Jonathan Ross that plays blues... so later that night i looked the show up on catch up tv just out of curiousity and listened to him talk to jonathan ross then play his music and i guess i kinda liked it.
So i looked him up yet again on you tube and by chance it was the jools holland show and after watching his set i was simply blown away by his honest grass roots performance and simply loved his guitar style.
Ok i thought lets see when this guys touring and very quickly found the perth date and as im in edinburgh i thought okay im going.
With a holiday booked and money tight i emptied my change jar of all the coppers and scraped enough to buy a ticket to go along then spent the last few weeks reading up on Steve and listening to as much of his music as i could and the more i listened the more i liked.
I could give a review of the perth concert i guess but the best way i can describe it is that i have always wondered what a show by one of the true legends must feel like deep inside when in the audience and it dawns on you that your seeing something very very special (bb king ...jeff healey...presley...clapton etc etc at their best).
After steves show on sunday past all i can say is its a priviledge to have seen him play and im most definately a lifelong fan of a legend that is still being made.
hearing Steve,s guitar then him walking on stage ... shaking hands with the whole front row then ripping into his set is a treasured memory as is his slightly self conious bow to his audience after each song showing a genuine appreciation to his fans thats unfortunately rare these days.
I could nt hang around after the show as i needed to get back to edinburgh for work the next day but you know what, i dont really mind as it sure as hell aint the last time ill see the great man , the unbelievable chemistry with his drummer and i ve already promised myself that next time im queing up with everyone else if for no other reason than to say a big thanks to those guys for their honest grass roots approach to music that for me was frankly an education and a great pleasure.
I ve read a fair bit of the forum and seems a good bunch of people involved here and i look forward to learning more about Steve and grass roots " song and dance " music from you guys
cheers Rich

Hi Rich, welcome to the forum. Steve is excellent live, but from what I have heard, Perth was something special, even by his standards!

Re: Hello :}
Welcome to the forum Rich08, I enjoyed reading your post. I am going to see Steve myself for the first time, a week tomorrow at Leicester. I think you`re spot one describing Steve as a true legend, it`s not very often that you have the privilege of seeing someone truly remarkable play live.
Regarding hearing Steve,s guitar then him walking on stage, again I`ve not had the pleasure of experiencing that live yet. Seen it on the net, on a video of his April 2009 Sydney concert, link here

Real "hairs on the back of your neck" stuff
only experienced that once at a gig, and I`ve been to a fair few in my time
Cheers

Hey Rich,
welcome to the forum! Cheers for telling us about your introduction to SSS - yeah, being at one of Steve's gigs feels a bit like being part of history in the making. Folks are gonna talk about these events for years to come!
Any questions about Steve just post 'em. There's usually an answer form someone pretty soon.
Catch ya soon,
davey.

Hey Rich,
welcome to the forum.
Glad you enjoyed Perth, money well spent mate.
I think Steve gained a fair amount of new friends that night in Perth, simply magic, and I will undoubtedly treasure the experience.
Coming from Perth it was my hope to see him play here one day and it finally happened, when I heard that it was to happen I was lucky enough to get to the front of the line for tickets and bought one for all the family to make sure the kids were going to be able to get the Steve experience and they loved it.
Look forward to more live Steve fun soon wherever that may be.
Cheers Chrissieboy.

Hello Chrissieboy
Funnily enough Perth is kinda my old home city...I was brought up just outside pitlochry and worked in perth for somewhere around four or five years (three and a half in the Royal george just across the road from the concert hall)
Lived in edinburgh long enough to view it has home and if truth be known i did nt actually know where the concert hall was but really is a great venue that perth folks can be very proud off
Asked my wife and daughter if they wanted to go but neither wanted to which was a shame because music aside Steve is one of lifes great entertainers and has that likeability factor in abundance
cheers and glad you enjoyed the concert...Rich
Ps...I missed him in edinburgh last year but looking forward to seeing him in my adopted city sometime which would be excellent if...
